I’m sure you all have noticed there has been a lot of activity recently
on Main Street. We’ve had crews finishing utility installation, grading
for curb-gutter and sidewalk, and doing pavement repairs. I’ll go over a
run down of our activities currently scheduled for the next few weeks
and before Duvall Days. Many of these are weather dependent and may move
backward or forward as necessary.
→ Curb and gutter should be installed between Stewart and Virginia streets
and crosswalk across Stewart Street today the 8th.
→ Week of the 11th; remove asphalt in traffic islands and install sidewalk
around Virginia Street.
→ Monday the 11th; side street crosswalk installation on Stella Street
begins, road will be closed at Main Street thru Wednesday the 13th.
→ Monday the 11th thru Wednesday the 13th; pavement grinding and road
repair will begin throughout the Main Street project. This is scheduled
to be night time work running between 8PM and 5AM.
→ Tuesday the 12th; pavement crack sealing and traffic signal loop
installation begins during the work day lasting thru the week and maybe
into the following.
→ Thursday the 14th; side street crosswalk installation on Virginia Street
begins, road will be closed at Main Street thru Saturday the 16th.
→ Final overlay paving could happen anywhere between the 26th of May and
the 5th of June, or slightly sooner depending on weather and other
factors. This work is also scheduled to happen overnight between 8PM and
5AM and should take three nights.
On top of these activities utility cable installation will continue and
service conversions will begin. Our electrician and I will be working
with individual businesses over the next few weeks to schedule the
electric conversion. Some landscaping could begin as early as May 20th
and some of our urban installations (art, benches, trash cans, etc.) may
also be installed beginning the 25th. The Main Street crosswalk work is
also an unknown at this point while we wait for a response from WSDOT on
our traffic control plan. It has been tentatively placed in the schedule
from May 20th to June 5th, but much is dependent on other work and the
WSDOT response. It is possible that the crosswalk work may even get
rescheduled to happen after Duvall Days depending those factors.
Overall, by Duvall Days the project will have come along way toward
completion. Unfortunately we currently do not anticipate being able to
remove poles or wires by June 6th.
As you can see next week is particularly busy; fortunately, moving the
grinding and road repair work to the night time will help expedite work
and lessen the impact of said work. I will send out another update as
soon as more information is available, but this is a pretty good
